v1.65.0.0 feat: fork port wave 2 — feature fixes, session persistence, Apple releases, supply-chain CI (#2577)
* fix(memory-ingest): pass --include-gitignored to gbrain import gstack-artifacts-init writes an ignore-everything .gitignore (a bare `*`, headed "Do not edit") at the root of ~/.gstack. The memory ingest stages pages into ~/.gstack/.staging-ingest-<pid>-<ts>/, which is inside that repo, and gbrain's markdown collector honours .gitignore. The collector therefore matches every staged file against `*` and collects zero. The failure is silent. gbrain import exits 0 having imported nothing while the ingest prints `written: N` from the STAGED count rather than the imported count, so a run that indexes nothing looks identical to a healthy one and the memory corpus quietly stops growing. Reproduction, using git's own ignore machinery (no gbrain needed): git init . mkdir -p .staging-ingest-12345/learnings echo x > .staging-ingest-12345/learnings/page.md printf '*\n' > .gitignore git ls-files --others --exclude-standard # -> empty Passing --include-gitignored makes the import independent of whatever .gitignore sits above the staging directory. Adding a negation to the generated .gitignore is the alternative, but that file is gstack-owned and marked "Do not edit", so any regeneration silently reintroduces the bug. Adds a regression pin in the shape of memory-ingest-no-put_page.test.ts, plus a behavioural test for the collision itself. Both source pins fail against the unpatched file. * fix(memory-ingest): GIT_CEILING_DIRECTORIES defense-in-depth on the import child (#2144) Second layer under #2560's --include-gitignored: a realpath'd ceiling at the staging dir's parent pushes any git-enumerating collector off the git fast path (which sees zero files under ~/.gstack's ignore-everything root) onto its plain FS walk, even on gbrain builds whose flag semantics drift. Ceiling is realpath'd because git compares canonicalized directories during discovery — a staging dir reached through a symlink (macOS /var -> /private/var, symlinked $GSTACK_HOME) otherwise never matches. Behavioral tests prove discovery stops at the ceiling from the staging dir, including through a symlinked path, using git itself — no gbrain required. Integration tests pin raw-token absence, the id shape/metadata, and the token_id revoke round-trip (verified RED against the leaking handler). The log line handed a credential to anything reading the unified log during the launch window. It now announces port/build only. The IPv4 listener bound the wildcard interface and relied on the per-connection peer check alone; IPv4 has no CoreDevice tunnel path, so it now binds 127.0.0.1 via requiredLocalEndpoint at the socket level. IPv6 keeps the wildcard bind for CoreDevice ULA peers by design. Static pins cover both the template and the fixture app copy. Ported from time-attack/gstack (GStack 2). Consent-on-first-use, not silent breakage: the /pair-agent skill asks once (one-way-door posture), sets pair_agent via gstack-config (registered with on|off validation, default off), and never asks again; direct API callers get the same hint in the refusal. The env guards (BROWSE_PARENT_PID=0, BROWSE_HEADED=1) only cover daemons that were headed when they started. handoff breaks that assumption. It swaps in a headed context on a RUNNING daemon and sets connectionMode = 'headed' without a restart, so a daemon that legitimately registered a watchdog lands on the fatal side of the branch. The parent is usually a short-lived shell, and Claude Code's Bash tool kills one after every invocation, so the next 15s poll shuts the daemon down. The user-visible effect is that handoff destroys the thing it just created. It exists so a human can log in, solve a CAPTCHA, or clear an MFA prompt; the browser disappears about fifteen seconds later and takes the session with it. Observed while driving two registrar control panels: five daemon deaths and three logins, each one discarding the authenticated session. BrowserManager now exposes onHeadedPromotion, fired only on runtime promotion and not on a headed boot, and the server binds it to a canceller for the interval it already owned but previously discarded. Bound on both the module-level manager and any embedder-supplied one, since the watchdog reads activeBrowserManager and binding only the default would let embedders promote silently. The binding sits next to the browserManager declaration rather than next to clearParentWatchdog. Placing it with the function, which lives with the watchdog it cancels, reads better but touches browserManager in its temporal dead zone, which aborts module evaluation and leaves every later const uninitialized. findport tests catch that immediately. Tests: watchdog.test.ts already noted in its header that its three cases all fix mode via env at spawn time, so none reaches the headed branch. Driving a real handoff needs a headed Chromium, so the wiring is pinned with static tripwires instead, matching cdp-session-cleanup.test.ts and server-auth.test.ts. Verified they fail when the notification call is removed and pass when restored. Full `bun test` shows the same 6 pre-existing failures on this branch and on main (gstack-gbrain-detect, gstack-artifacts-init), which pass in isolation on both, so they are test-order pollution rather than a regression here. * fix(browse): pass windowsHide so the daemon stops popping console windows On Windows, `browse` leaves empty black console windows on top of whatever the user is doing — they pop up every few minutes for as long as any browser skill is alive, and outlive the process that created them. Cause: `bun-polyfill.cjs` maps `Bun.spawn`/`Bun.spawnSync` onto node's `child_process`, and node defaults `windowsHide` to **false**. Bun never creates these windows, so nothing in the daemon's own code looks wrong — the behaviour only appears on the node fallback path. The one users notice is `spawnTerminalAgent()`, which launches `bun run terminal-agent.ts` through this shim. The daemon respawns it on a watchdog, so closing the window is not enough — a new one arrives shortly after. Ten `bun.exe` processes were live on the machine this was diagnosed on. Why they linger after the child exits: with the default terminal application set to "Let Windows decide", the console is brokered through Windows Terminal via svchost, and WT leaves the empty frame behind when its only child exits. The frame has no child process at all, which is why it looks like a dead terminal. Setting `windowsHide: true` on both wrappers fixes every console child routed through the shim — the bun agent plus the `tasklist`, `git` and `powershell` calls elsewhere in the daemon. No behaviour change on macOS or Linux, where the option is ignored. Not covered by this commit: `chromium.launch()` goes through playwright's own process launcher rather than this shim, so it still creates one window per daemon start. Worth a follow-up. * test(browse): make bun-polyfill tests runnable on Windows, and cover windowsHide `bun test browse/test/bun-polyfill.test.ts` was **0 pass / 4 fail on Windows** before this — every test in the file, on the platform the polyfill exists to support. Each test interpolates the polyfill's absolute path into a single-quoted JS string passed to `node -e`. On Windows that path has backslashes, so JS eats them as escapes: 'C:\Users\jwilk\dev\gstack-fork\browse\src\bun-polyfill.cjs' -> C:Usersjwilkdevgstack-forkrowsesrcun-polyfill.cjs (`\b` is a real escape, so it deletes a character too.) `require()` throws, the subprocess dies, stdout is empty, and every assertion compares against "". The tests pass on macOS and Linux purely because those paths have no backslashes. Fixed by interpolating with `JSON.stringify(polyfillPath)`, which quotes and escapes correctly on all platforms. Also adds a regression test for the windowsHide fix in the previous commit. It stubs `child_process.spawn`/`spawnSync` *before* the polyfill destructures them and asserts the captured options, so it is deterministic and needs no window — it verifies the contract on macOS and Linux too, where the option is a no-op. Verified on Windows: 5 pass / 0 fail with the fix, and the new test alone fails ("VISIBLE" instead of "HIDDEN") when the previous commit is reverted. * fix(browse): forward windowsHide through the Bun polyfill spawn shims The Node fallback shim accepts a Bun.spawn options object and forwards only stdio, env and cwd to child_process.spawn. windowsHide is dropped, and because Node defaults it to false while Bun.spawn hides the console window, the omission inverts the behavior on the one platform the shim exists to support. Symptom: the terminal-agent respawn in server.ts (60s watchdog ticker) pops a visible bun.exe console window on Windows every time it fires, so the window keeps coming back with no scheduled task or startup entry behind it. stdio:'ignore' silences the child's output but does not suppress its window. Both shims now forward the option and default it to true, matching the Bun API being emulated; an explicit windowsHide:false still passes through. spawnTerminalAgent also sets it explicitly at the call site. Tests: three cases in browse/test/bun-polyfill.test.ts assert the default for spawn and spawnSync and that an explicit false is honored. Each was confirmed to fail against the unpatched shim. Drive-by, required to run the suite at all on Windows: the tests interpolated an absolute path into a JS string literal, so backslashes were consumed as escapes and every require() failed with MODULE_NOT_FOUND. The path is now normalized to forward slashes. On Windows this file went from 0/4 passing to 7/7. * fix(browse): headed mode on macOS 26 — stop mutating the signed Chromium bundle, heal the ones we already broke (#2242, #2138, #2139) The in-place rebrand rewrote the Chrome-for-Testing bundle's Info.plist (global name replace — which also renamed CFBundleExecutable to a binary that doesn't exist) and overwrote its Resources/*.icns, breaking the codesign seal: GPU process exit_code=5, headed mode dead on macOS 26. The mutation lived in the SHARED Playwright cache, so it also poisoned the user's other Playwright projects. Three layers land together: (1) the rebrand block is gone — branding lives in the GStack Browser.app wrapper via GSTACK_CHROMIUM_PATH, with a tombstone and a static tripwire (no plist/icns writes into the bundle; the tripwire allows the read-only probe below); (2) a launch-time self-heal detects an already-poisoned cache bundle, removes it, and errors with the exact re-fetch command — covering deploy paths that never run migrations; (3) migration v1.64.0.0 sweeps every cached bundle, removes poisoned ones, and re-fetches clean Chromium immediately (migrations run after ./setup, so without the re-fetch an upgrade would end with zero working browser). Functionally verified against fixture caches: poisoned removed, clean untouched, rerun no-op. Migration filename tracks the final VERSION at ship. The #2242 watchdog half is the absorbed PR #2565 (thanks @Screddyice). Tombstone/tripwire ported from time-attack/gstack (GStack 2); self-heal and migration are ours. Under concurrent in-file children the API queuing tipped all retry attempts past the ceiling — the runner then reports $0.00/0 turns for a timed-out child, which reads like a dead spawn but is a healthy child killed at the deadline. 540s runner / 660s test for these two only; verified 2/2 green at 228s and 315s. * fix(code-intelligence): gbrain search/export are consent-gated and receipted The Sourcebot side got this in the last round; gbrain had the same hole — search() and export() sent repo-derived query text into a possibly-remote DATABASE_URL with no consent check and no egress receipt, bypassing the deny-tier veto. Wired into server.ts startup: when shouldSpawnXvfb says yes, picks a
free display, spawns Xvfb, sets DISPLAY for chromium.launchHeaded, and
records xvfbPid/xvfbStartTime/xvfbDisplay in the state file. Cleanup
runs on process.on('exit'). The CLI's disconnect path also runs
cleanupXvfb() in the force-cleanup branch when the server is dead.
Disconnect now applies to any non-default daemon (headed mode OR
configHash-tagged daemon — i.e. one started with --proxy/--headed),
not just headed mode.
Adds xvfb + x11-utils to .github/docker/Dockerfile.ci so CI exercises
the Linux container --headed path on every run. Without it the most
common production path would go untested.
Tests: 17 new across decision logic, PID validation defenses
(cmdline mismatch, start-time mismatch), no-op safety on bad inputs,
and a Linux+Xvfb-installed gate for the spawn → validate → cleanup
round trip. Tests skip on macOS/Windows automatically.

fingerprinters check consistency between plugins.length, languages,
userAgent, and platform, and synthesizing fixed values can flag MORE
bot-like, not less. The honest minimum is webdriver, which Chromium
exposes as a known automation tell.
Adds browse/src/stealth.ts: single source of truth for the stealth
init script and launch args. Both browser-manager.launch() (headless)
and launchHeaded() (persistent context with extension) call
applyStealth(context) and pass STEALTH_LAUNCH_ARGS into chromium.launch.
The pre-existing launchHeaded stealth that did fake plugins/languages
is removed for the same reason. The cdc_/__webdriver runtime cleanup
and Permissions API patch are kept — they remove automation-injected
artifacts, not synthesize fake natural-browser values.
Adds bridge-chromium-e2e.test.ts (codex F3): the test that proves the
FEATURE works. Real Chromium with proxy.server = 'socks5://127.0.0.1:
<bridgePort>' navigates to a local HTTP fixture; the auth upstream's
connect counter and the HTTP fixture's hit counter both increment,
proving traffic actually traversed bridge → auth-upstream → destination.
Without this test, we could ship a working byte-relay and a broken
Chromium integration and never know.
Adds bridge-port-restart.test.ts (codex F1, reframed): old test
assumed two daemons coexist, which contradicts D2 single-daemon model.
Reframed as restart-then-restart, asserting fresh ephemeral ports

Inferred content type from suggested filename for common extensions
(epub, pdf, zip, gz, mp3/mp4, jpg/jpeg/png, txt, html, json) — falls

Frames the use case generically (anti-bot CDN, Content-Disposition,
redirect chains) rather than naming any specific site, per project

- Asserts exit 1, 'FAIL upstream' in stderr (testUpstream pre-flight
ran), no raw credential leakage in any output (redaction works on
the failure path), and exit within 30s upper bound.
Both tests use the existing spawn-bun-cli pattern from
commands.test.ts so they run on the same CI infrastructure as the

Two regressions caught by the full test suite after the v1.28.0.0
landing pass:
1) package.json version mismatch — VERSION was bumped to 1.28.0.0
but package.json still pinned to 1.27.1.0.
test/gen-skill-docs.test.ts asserts they match.
2) Top-level await in scripts/gen-llms-txt.ts (CLI entry block) and
scripts/gen-skill-docs.ts (post-step) made gen-skill-docs an
async module. test/gen-skill-docs.test.ts uses require() to pull
extractVoiceTriggers/processVoiceTriggers from gen-skill-docs,
which Bun rejects on async modules with:
"TypeError: require() async module ... unsupported.
use 'await import()' instead."
Fix: wrap the await blocks in void IIFEs so the modules remain sync
from a require() perspective.
After fix: all 379 gen-skill-docs tests pass, all 77 new feature
tests pass (3 skipped on macOS — Linux+Xvfb gates).

* fix(browse): apply codex adversarial findings on the new lifecycle
Codex outside-voice review caught five real production-failure modes in
the v1.28.0.0 proxy/headed lifecycle. Fixed:
1) `browse disconnect` skip-graceful for proxy-only daemons
(browse/src/cli.ts). The graceful /command POST went out with stray
`domains,` shorthand and (even fixed) the server's disconnect handler
only tears down headed mode — proxy-only daemons returned 200 "Not
in headed mode" while leaving the bridge running. Now disconnect
short-circuits to force-cleanup for non-headed daemons, which kicks
process.on('exit') in server.ts to close the bridge + Xvfb.
2) sendCommand crash retry preserves --proxy / --headed
(browse/src/cli.ts). The ECONNRESET retry path called startServer()
with no extraEnv, silently dropping the proxied flags. A daemon that
died mid-command would silently restart in default direct/headless
mode and bypass the SOCKS bridge. Now reapplies BROWSE_PROXY_URL,
BROWSE_HEADED, and BROWSE_CONFIG_HASH from the resolved global flags.
3) `connect` honors --proxy (browse/src/cli.ts). The headed-mode
`connect` command built its own serverEnv that didn't include
BROWSE_PROXY_URL, so `browse --proxy <url> connect` launched headed
Chromium without the proxy. Now threads proxyUrl + configHash into
the connect serverEnv.
4) SOCKS5 bridge handles fragmented TCP frames
(browse/src/socks-bridge.ts). Previously used once('data') and
parsed each chunk as a complete SOCKS5 frame — TCP doesn't preserve
message boundaries and split greetings/CONNECT requests caused
intermittent handshake failures. Replaced with a single state
machine that buffers chunks and uses size predicates on the SOCKS5
header to know when a complete frame has arrived. Pauses the client
socket during upstream connect and replays any remainder bytes
into the upstream on success.
5) Xvfb cleanup-then-state-delete ordering
(browse/src/server.ts). emergencyCleanup() previously deleted the
state file BEFORE any Xvfb cleanup could read it, orphaning Xvfb
on uncaughtException / unhandledRejection. Now reads the state
file first, calls cleanupXvfb() (which validates cmdline +
start-time before kill), then deletes the state file.
Adds a regression test for #4: writes the SOCKS5 greeting + CONNECT
one byte at a time with 5ms ticks, asserts a clean round trip after
the fragmented handshake.
Codex's sixth finding (bridge advertises NO_AUTH on 127.0.0.1, so any
co-located process can use the authenticated upstream) is documented
as a known limitation — gstack's threat model assumes single-user
hosts. Adding bridge-side auth is a separate change.

The cached node_modules layer in the pre-baked Docker image had
`socks` (the new dep) but was missing its transitive deps (smart-buffer,
ip-address). The image build copied only package.json into the build
context — without bun.lock, `bun install` resolved a different tree
than local `bun install` did, dropping required transitive deps.
Reproduces locally as 229 packages (correct) when bun.lock is present
or absent. Why CI diverged isn't fully understood — possibly Docker
layer cache reuse across image rebuilds — but the deterministic fix is
to include the lockfile in the image build context and use
`--frozen-lockfile`, matching what every CI doc recommends.
Changes:
- .github/docker/Dockerfile.ci: COPY bun.lock alongside package.json,
switch `bun install` → `bun install --frozen-lockfile` so any future
lockfile drift fails loudly during image build instead of producing
a partially-installed cache that breaks downstream eval jobs.
- .github/workflows/evals.yml: include bun.lock in the image-tag hash
so adding/removing a dep invalidates the image, AND copy bun.lock
into the docker context alongside package.json.
- .github/workflows/evals-periodic.yml: same updates.
- .github/workflows/ci-image.yml: rebuild trigger now fires on bun.lock
changes too; build context includes bun.lock.
Image hash changes → fresh image gets built on next CI run → install
matches the lockfile exactly → no missing transitive deps.

After the bun.lock fix landed, the eval matrix STILL failed identically:
Could not resolve: "smart-buffer" / "ip-address"
at /opt/node_modules_cache/socks/build/client/socksclient.js
But the hash-tagged image actually contains smart-buffer + ip-address +
socks all flat in /opt/node_modules_cache (verified by pulling and
inspecting the image). 207 packages, all present.
Root cause: the workflow used `ln -s /opt/node_modules_cache node_modules`
to restore deps. Bun build (and Node module resolution generally) walks
a file's realpath to find sibling deps. From the symlinked
/workspace/node_modules/socks/build/client/socksclient.js, realpath
resolves to /opt/node_modules_cache/socks/build/client/socksclient.js,
and walking up to find a node_modules/smart-buffer dir fails — there's
no `node_modules` segment in the realpath.
Switch `ln -s` → `cp -al` (hardlink-copy). Each file in the cache becomes
a hardlink at /workspace/node_modules/<pkg>, sharing inodes (no data
copy). Realpath of /workspace/node_modules/socks/.../socksclient.js
stays inside /workspace/node_modules, so sibling deps resolve correctly.
Speed is comparable to symlink — `cp -al` on ~200 packages on tmpfs is
sub-second. Same caching story preserved.
Both evals.yml and evals-periodic.yml updated.

(overlay-fs layered onto the runner image), and /opt is the runner
image's own filesystem. Cross-filesystem hardlinks aren't supported.
Switch `cp -al` → `cp -r`. Cost: ~5s for ~200 packages of small JS
files vs ~0s for the broken symlink. Still cheaper than the ~15s
`bun install` fallback. Realpath of /workspace/node_modules/<pkg>/...
stays inside /workspace, so bun build's sibling-dep resolution works.
Both evals.yml and evals-periodic.yml updated.

Adds the foundation layer for Puppeteer-parity features:

via in-memory replay. ASCII lifecycle diagram in the source explains the
clear-before-navigation contract.
- COMMAND_ALIASES + canonicalizeCommand() helper — single source of truth
for name aliases (setcontent / set-content / setContent → load-html),
consumed by server dispatch and chain prevalidation.
- buildUnknownCommandError() pure function — rich error messages with
Levenshtein-based "Did you mean" suggestions (distance ≤ 2, input
length ≥ 4 to skip 2-letter noise) and NEW_IN_VERSION upgrade hints.
- load-html registered in WRITE_COMMANDS + SCOPE_WRITE so scoped write
tokens can use it.
- screenshot and viewport descriptions updated for upcoming flags.

Extends validateNavigationUrl to accept file:// URLs scoped to safe dirs
(cwd + TEMP_DIR) via the existing validateReadPath policy. The workhorse is a
new normalizeFileUrl() helper that handles non-standard relative forms BEFORE
the WHATWG URL parser sees them:

Host heuristic rejects segments with '.', ':', '\\', '%', IPv6 brackets, or
Windows drive-letter patterns — so file://docs.v1/page.html, file://127.0.0.1/x,
file://[::1]/x, and file://C:/Users/x are explicit errors.
Uses fileURLToPath() + pathToFileURL() from node:url (never string-concat) so
URL escapes like %20 decode correctly and Node rejects encoded-slash traversal
(%2F..%2F) outright.
Signature change: validateNavigationUrl now returns Promise<string> (the
normalized URL) instead of Promise<void>. Existing callers that ignore the
return value still compile — they just don't benefit from smart-parsing until
updated in follow-up commits. Callers will be migrated in the next few commits
(goto, diff, newTab, restoreState).
Rewrites the url-validation test file: updates existing tests for the new
return type, adds 20+ new tests covering every normalizeFileUrl shape variant,
URL-encoding edge cases, and path-traversal rejection.

* feat(browse): BrowserManager deviceScaleFactor + setContent replay + file:// plumbing
Three tightly-coupled changes to BrowserManager, all in service of the
Puppeteer-parity workflow:
1. deviceScaleFactor + currentViewport tracking. New private fields (default
scale=1, viewport=1280x720) + setDeviceScaleFactor(scale, w, h) method.
deviceScaleFactor is a context-level Playwright option — changing it
requires recreateContext(). The method validates (finite number, 1-3 cap,
headed-mode rejected), stores new values, calls recreateContext(), and
rolls back the fields on failure so a bad call doesn't leave inconsistent
state. Context options at all three sites (launch, recreate happy path,
recreate fallback) now honor the stored values instead of hardcoding
1280x720.
2. BrowserState.loadedHtml + loadedHtmlWaitUntil. saveState captures per-tab
loadedHtml from the session; restoreState replays it via newSession.
setTabContent() — NOT bare page.setContent() — so TabSession.loadedHtml
is rehydrated and survives *subsequent* scale changes. In-memory only,
never persisted to disk (HTML may contain secrets or customer data).
3. newTab + restoreState now consume validateNavigationUrl's normalized
return value. file://./x, file://~/x, and bare-segment forms now take
effect at every navigation site, not just the top-level goto command.
Together these enable: load-html → viewport --scale 2 → viewport --scale 1.5
→ screenshot, with content surviving both context recreations. Codex v2 P0
flagged that bare page.setContent in restoreState would lose content on the
second scale change — this commit implements the rehydration path.

(.html/.htm/.xhtml/.svg), magic-byte sniff with UTF-8 BOM strip accepting
any <[a-zA-Z!?] markup opener (not just <!doctype — bare fragments like
<div>...</div> work for setContent), 50MB cap via GSTACK_BROWSE_MAX_HTML_BYTES
override, frame-context rejection. Calls session.setTabContent() so replay
metadata is rehydrated.
- viewport command extended: optional [<WxH>], optional [--scale <n>],
scale-only variant reads current size via page.viewportSize(). Invalid
scale (NaN, Infinity, empty, out of 1-3) throws with named value. Headed
mode rejected explicitly.
- clearLoadedHtml() called BEFORE goto/back/forward/reload navigation
(not after) so a timed-out goto post-commit doesn't leave stale metadata
that could resurrect on a later context recreation. Codex v2 P1 catch.
- goto uses validateNavigationUrl's normalized return value.
meta-commands.ts
- screenshot --selector <css> flag: explicit element-screenshot form.
Rejects alongside positional selector (both = error), preserves --clip
conflict at line 161, composes with --base64 at lines 168-174.
- chain canonicalizes each step with canonicalizeCommand — step shape is
now { rawName, name, args } so prevalidation, dispatch, WRITE_COMMANDS.has,
watch blocking, and result labels all use canonical names while audit
labels show 'rawName→name' when aliased. Codex v3 P2 catch — prior shape
only canonicalized at prevalidation and diverged everywhere else.
- diff command consumes validateNavigationUrl return value for both URLs.
server.ts
- Command canonicalization inserted immediately after parse, before scope /
watch / tab-ownership / content-wrapping checks. rawCommand preserved for
future audit (not wired into audit log in this commit — follow-up).
- Unknown-command handler replaced with buildUnknownCommandError() from
commands.ts — produces 'Unknown command: X. Did you mean Y?' with optional
upgrade hint for NEW_IN_VERSION entries.
security-audit-r2.test.ts
- Updated chain-loop marker from 'for (const cmd of commands)' to
'for (const c of commands)' to match the new chain step shape. Same
isWatching + BLOCKED invariants still asserted.

Adversarial review (Claude subagent + Codex) surfaced 9 bugs across
CRITICAL/HIGH severity. All fixed:
1. tab-session.ts:setTabContent — state mutation moved AFTER the setContent
await. Prior order left phantom HTML in replay metadata if setContent
threw (timeout, browser crash), which a later viewport --scale would
silently replay. Now loadedHtml is only recorded on successful load.
2. browser-manager.ts:setDeviceScaleFactor — rollback now forces a second
recreateContext after restoring the old fields. The fallback path in
the original recreateContext builds a blank context using whatever
this.deviceScaleFactor/currentViewport hold at that moment (which were
the NEW values we were trying to apply). Rolling back the fields without
a second recreate left the live context at new-scale while state tracked
old-scale. Now: restore fields, force re-recreate with old values, only
if that ALSO fails do we return a combined error.
3. commands.ts:buildUnknownCommandError — Levenshtein tiebreak simplified
to 'd <= 2 && d < bestDist' (strict less). Candidates are pre-sorted
alphabetically, so first equal-distance wins by default. The prior
'(d === bestDist && best !== undefined && cand < best)' clause was dead
code.
4. tab-session.ts:onMainFrameNavigated — now clears loadedHtml, not just
refs + frame. Without this, a user who load-html'd then clicked a link
(or had a form submit / JS redirect / OAuth flow) would retain the stale
replay metadata. The next viewport --scale would silently revert the
tab to the ORIGINAL loaded HTML, losing whatever the post-navigation
content was. Silent data corruption. Browser-emitted navigations trigger
this path via wirePageEvents.
5. browser-manager.ts:saveState + restoreState — tab ownership now flows
through BrowserState.owner. Without this, a scoped agent's viewport
--scale would strand them: tab IDs change during recreate, ownership
map held stale IDs, owner lookup failed. New IDs had no owner, so
writes without tabId were denied (DoS). Worse, if the agent sent a
stale tabId the server's swallowed-tab-switch-error path would let the
command hit whatever tab was currently active (cross-tab authz bypass).
Now: clear ownership before restore, re-add per-tab with new IDs.
6. meta-commands.ts:state load — disk-loaded state.pages is now explicit
allowlist (url, isActive, storage:null) instead of object spread.
Spreading accepted loadedHtml, loadedHtmlWaitUntil, and owner from a
user-writable state file, letting a tampered state.json smuggle HTML
past load-html's safe-dirs / extension / magic-byte / 50MB-cap
validators, or forge tab ownership. Now stripped at the boundary.
7. url-validation.ts:normalizeFileUrl — preserves query string + fragment
across normalization. file://./app.html?route=home#login previously
resolved to a filesystem path that URL-encoded '?' as %3F and '#' as
%23, or (for absolute forms) pathToFileURL dropped them entirely. SPAs
and fixture URLs with query params 404'd or loaded the wrong route.
Now: split on ?/# before path resolution, reattach after.
8. url-validation.ts:validateNavigationUrl — reattaches parsed.search +
parsed.hash to the normalized file:// URL. Same fix at the main
validator for absolute paths that go through fileURLToPath round-trip.
9. server.ts:writeAuditEntry — audit entries now include aliasOf when the
user typed an alias ('setcontent' → cmd: 'load-html', aliasOf:
'setcontent'). Previously the isAliased variable was computed but
dropped, losing the raw input from the forensic trail. Completes the
plan's codex v3 P2 requirement.
Also added bm.getCurrentViewport() and switched 'viewport --scale'-
without-size to read from it (more reliable than page.viewportSize() on
headed/transition contexts).
Tests pass: exit 0, no failures. Build clean.

Fixture paths use /tmp (SAFE_DIRECTORIES entry) instead of $TMPDIR which is
/var/folders/... on macOS and outside the safe-dirs boundary. Chain result
labels use rawName→name format when an alias is resolved (matches the
meta-commands.ts chain refactor).

Agents were skipping the find-browse binary and guessing bin/browse
(wrong path). Now the setup block explicitly checks browse/dist/browse
with workspace-local priority, global fallback.

Adds {{UPDATE_CHECK}} and {{BROWSE_SETUP}} template placeholders to
gen-skill-docs.ts so all skills share a single source of truth.

Replaces hardcoded update check and find-browse blocks with
{{UPDATE_CHECK}} and {{BROWSE_SETUP}} placeholders. Both skills
are now generated from templates via gen-skill-docs.
* test: add e2e and LLM eval tests for SKILL.md setup block
- 3 Agent SDK e2e tests: happy path, NEEDS_SETUP, non-git-repo
- LLM eval: setup block clarity + actionability >= 4
- New error pattern: 'no such file or directory.*browse'
These tests catch the exact failure mode where agents can't discover
the browse binary via SKILL.md instructions.
