- a later render into the same briefs directory overwrites the earlier brief by
  design, so verify checks a brief file only for the newest render of that path
- collect and judge record absolute output, merged and judged paths, so verify
  reads them from any directory
- docs: a failed reader's failure text is parsed like any output
