Victor Kuznetsov 646f72534b Carry the ICC profile and EXIF orientation across re-encodes
Issue #98. cv2's encoders write no container metadata, so every pixel-path
output (all, visible, invisible, erase) came back without its colour profile
and orientation tag, even with --keep-metadata.

imwrite now takes display_tags_from, the file whose decode produced the
pixels, and restores the two display tags into the re-encoded output: PNG and
JPEG by splicing iCCP/eXIf chunks and APP1/APP2 segments into the encoded
bytes, WebP by a lossless Pillow re-save (libwebp hides hand-spliced chunks
from readers without a VP8X header), HEIF through the save call itself.
Orientation is re-tagged only when the raster still has the source's stored
dimensions: cv2 rotates JPEG and (build-dependent) PNG decodes under
IMREAD_COLOR but never IMREAD_UNCHANGED, which is what the pixel paths read
with, so the decision is made against the raster's own shape and cannot
double-rotate.

The default metadata strip now preserves what the restore put back: the PIL
path forwards the profile and a scrubbed EXIF (orientation included) for PNG
and WebP outputs, the 16-bit chunk walker re-emits eXIf scrubbed instead of
dropping it wholesale, and --remove-all actually drops the ICC profile on
every format (Pillow's saver fallback kept it alive, contradicting the
documented "removed by --remove-all").

Mirror and 180-degree orientations (2, 3, 4) stay untagged: no cheap signal
distinguishes a rotated decode from a stored one for them.

Victor Kuznetsov 922f6faa7a Record the awesome-list maturity bars in the agent skill guide
ComposioHQ accepted a submission with no adoption bar (PR 1841);
VoltAgent lists reject brand-new skills, and the openclaw list indexes
ClawHub entries only. Both re-attempts are deferred with their
re-entry criteria.

Victor Kuznetsov f0b425ac71 Add skill packaging invariants and a path-filtered skill workflow
Three invariants the deterministic suite did not pin: the version
triple (SKILL.md, plugin.json, marketplace.json), the 500-line SKILL.md
budget, and probe.py MIN_CLI_VERSION never exceeding the package
version. skill.yml gives skill-only changes a seconds-fast gate on top
of the full Tests workflow.

Victor Kuznetsov 8ba2666a30 Document the text-restoration extra in the agent skill install table
CLI-reachable through invisible --text-manifest, present since v0.27.0,
so no MIN_CLI_VERSION change. Skill version 1.0.2 across SKILL.md,
plugin.json, and marketplace.json. The receipt-abstention wording for
classify is deferred to the 0.38.0 release change, where it belongs with
the MIN_CLI_VERSION raise.

Victor Kuznetsov a1022d33c3 Pin the photo-classify snapshot at the gate revision
ffc46db5 carries receipt-gate-2026-09-02.npz and the receipt_gate
operating-point entry, so fresh classify installs load the gate from the
model snapshot; the package asset remains the fallback for pre-gate
weights directories.

Victor Kuznetsov 5b52782f01 Move the receipt gate to the model side
The gate head is fitted on the freeze CLIP-L-ft embedding space, so it
belongs with the model: _load_receipt_gate now prefers
receipt-gate-2026-09-02.npz from the Hub snapshot or the
RAIW_CLASSIFY_WEIGHTS directory, with the package asset kept as the
fallback for weights frozen before the gate existed. Card mode of the
publish workflow now uploads the gate alongside the README and the
operating point, and the snapshot allow-pattern includes it.

Victor KuznetsovandClaude Opus 5 ecbe296b31 Keep the skill-eval harness tests portable on Windows
Windows has no execute bit, so asserting one on the sandbox CLI copy failed both
Windows jobs while every other platform passed. The shim is launched through the
interpreter there anyway, so the assertion is POSIX-only.

The subprocess env is now overlaid on the real one rather than replacing it.
That was not the failure -- the hand-built env happened to work -- but a PATH of
`/usr/bin:/bin` and no SystemRoot is not something to leave in a test that CI
runs on Windows.

Victor KuznetsovandClaude Opus 5 09960676fc Guard the skill against the CLI, and measure it against a model
The packaging tests a catalog runs say nothing about content, so the skill's
prose drifted from the CLI exactly the way an unguarded seam does. These tests
read the live Click tree: mark keys, flag choices, batch modes, pipeline
profiles, vendor cohorts, exit codes and extras must match what the skill says.

Guard the SET, not the instances. Per-flag comparisons only check what the skill
already documents, so `--vendor`, `--pipeline auto`, and then the whole
`classify` and `verify-openai-synthid` commands each shipped with a green suite.
`test_every_cli_command_is_named_somewhere_in_the_skill` closes that.

None of it proves the only thing a skill is for: that a model reaches for it and
then obeys it. `scripts/skill_eval.py` builds a throwaway project with the skill
installed and a recording stand-in for the CLI on PATH, runs a headless agent on
one user prompt, and grades the recorded command trace. Grading is mechanical --
"did it run `all` where the probe said nothing is written" is a fact in the
trace, and "did it name an output file that is not on disk" catches a fabricated
result without asking a model to judge itself. Agents are nondeterministic, so
the report is a pass rate per check over repeats, never one verdict.

The harness is tested too: the stand-in's exit codes are compared against the
real CLI where the state is reproducible locally, the grader runs over hand-built
traces, and every case is checked for internal consistency, because a scenario
whose `identify` names a mark its `visible` cannot find measures the case rather
than the skill.

Victor KuznetsovandClaude Opus 5 2bc37738d9 Publish the agent skill that drives this CLI
`skills/remove-ai-watermarks/` teaches a coding agent to drive the CLI on
content the user generated, and refuses stock-agency and other third-party
paid-asset marks. It ships with this repository rather than as a fifth release
surface, and installs through `npx skills add` in any harness or as a Claude
plugin from `.claude-plugin/marketplace.json`.

`scripts/probe.py` measures capability rather than presence: a found binary said
nothing about whether the build can run a visible-mark command, so it writes a
blank PNG with zlib and struct and runs the installed `visible` and `invisible`
on it. Exit 2 is a state only a working stack reaches, and `invisible` checks
its extra before detection, so a signal-free image answers in 0.23s with no
model download. That distinction matters: without CUDA, `all` writes nothing
with the invisible extra installed and writes a useful visible+metadata result
without it, and both exit 1.

The skill also carries what a weak model gets wrong. It must report only what a
command in the session actually did, because a run on a machine with no pixel
stack produced a finished-looking removal report, complete with a size table for
a file nobody wrote. It must not read exit 2 as a verdict, because Click's usage
errors share that code. And it must get explicit consent before
`verify-openai-synthid`, which uploads the user's image to a third party.

2026-09-05 11:27:17 -07:00
Victor KuznetsovandClaude Opus 5 637395b8a6 Name the missing pixel stack instead of tracebacking on it
The default package installs without `pixels`, and the Homebrew formula ships
exactly that build, so a first run that followed this project's own install
instructions died mid-command on a bare `ModuleNotFoundError: No module named
'cv2'` -- the one moment the user needed the extra named, and the only moment
they were not told it. `visible`, `erase`, `all` and `batch` now stop with the
install hint; `remove_batch` lets the same error out instead of counting one
absent package as an error per image, which turned a directory of 84 into 84
failures with no cause named.

Ask `optional_deps.pixels_available()` rather than matching the exception's
module name. An ImportError raised inside `cv2/__init__.py` carries `cv2.cv2`
and a numpy ABI mismatch carries `None`, so a name match let exactly the
tracebacks this guard exists for through.

`identify` keeps its historical no-op when the visible arm cannot decode, but
the report no longer stays silent about it: an install lacking the extra dropped
the visible Gemini mark from a marked image and read exactly like a clean scan.
The caveat names which silence happened, because an absent extra and an
unreadable file need different fixes.

`metadata --remove` reports surviving markers instead of crashing when the
raster-normalization recovery cannot import cv2, and the video runtime's install
hint is now shell-quoted like the others -- bare brackets are a glob in zsh.

Victor Kuznetsov 1e71f0523d Document the provider drift retrain campaign
The 2026-09-02 campaign measured the Aug ChatGPT renderer drift at the
Model 2 level and shipped nothing: leave-one-over-one recovers only the
margin near-miss, hard rejections resist sibling training, and every
refit variant regresses a sibling eval cell through the shared negative
pools (google -10 or meta -6). The drift corpus stays eval-only; the
tc260 producer split is deferred until ContentProducer metadata is
exported from the app database. Preconditions recorded for the next
retrain.

Victor Kuznetsov e41bdbc9c8 Add receipt-document gate to classify
A DEFINITELY verdict now runs a linear receipt gate on the CLIP-L-ft
vector Model 1 already computes: a hit publishes unknown and skips the
124-d provider pass. Trained on CORD-v2 train (800, CC BY 4.0) plus 200
synthetic capture-style receipts against 2,400 ai_train negatives; the
threshold is certified on CORD validation and a synthetic holdout with
no field-receipt pixels. Field receipts false-AI 19/59 -> 2/59, CORD
89/99 -> 0/99, ai_test DEFINITELY cost 7/1,847.

Victor KuznetsovandClaude Opus 5 9bb4e9cd54 Tell a pending ComfyUI upload apart from one that never happened
The check read `latest_version` on the node object, which reports only the
ACTIVE version. The registry reviews an upload before activating it, so for the
length of that review a correctly published version looks exactly like a release
that was never synced -- and 0.37.0 hit precisely that: the node repo bumped to
0.1.37 requiring >=0.37.0, the registry accepted it as
NodeVersionStatusPending, and the check called it missing.

Read the versions list instead and branch on the status: active passes, pending
passes while saying so in the summary rather than claiming the node is live, and
anything else fails. A missing version still fails hard, which is the case this
check exists for. Sort the matches by createdAt rather than trusting the
endpoint's current newest-first ordering.

Verified against the live registry in all three states: 0.37.0 pending, 0.36.0
active, 0.99.0 absent and erroring.

Victor KuznetsovandClaude Opus 5 5052dbe63c Release 0.37.0
Two new commands since 0.36.0, so a minor bump: `classify` (photograph
AI-versus-camera from pixels, with a gated provider head, behind the new
`classify` extra) and `verify-openai-synthid` (the official remote verifier,
behind the new `verify` extra). Also measured auto engine selection and a
Doubao edge-mask artifact fix.

`classify` downloads its freeze from wiltodelta/raiw-photo-classify. That is
the first release to carry the Hub id at all, which is why the rename landed
before the bump rather than after.

Victor KuznetsovandClaude Opus 5 2fe4d3c3a0 Correct stale claims in the user-facing docs
README omitted doubao from both places it lists supported video marks; the
mark has been registered since 2026-08-28 and docs/cli.md and
supported-signals.md already carry it. README also attributed the 2026-07-29
two-clip calibration to video-synthid-oracle.csv, which holds two rows from
one carrier dated 2026-07-31; that calibration was never recorded in a
tracked manifest, so say so rather than implying it is reproducible.

"Both surviving profiles" predates chroma-zimage; there are three. "The SDXL
profiles were removed" reads as false next to the shipped sdxl-zimage --
docs/synthid.md already had the right wording, naming the standalone SDXL and
ControlNet profiles, so use it in the other two places.

The Hub card declared a datasets entry for hugging-face/open-images, which
does not exist and rendered a dead link on the model page. Open Images stays
named in the prose, where it is a source rather than a Hub id.

Victor KuznetsovandClaude Opus 5 adbc6a3046 Guard the docs seam, and close the eight knobs it had already lost
The code-to-code seams were guarded and the code-to-docs seam was not, so it
drifted the way an unguarded seam does. docs/cli.md named none of
--adaptive-polish, --controlnet-scale, --detect/--no-detect, --humanize,
--strength, --tile-size or --tile-overlap; --no-detect is the escape hatch the
CLI's own --sensitivity help recommends. docs/python-api.md named 9 of the 16
InvisibleOptions fields.

The new test reads the live Click tree and the live dataclass rather than a
hand-kept list. Group spellings by the Click parameter, not by string surgery:
a boolean pair can be spelled --strip-metadata/--keep-metadata or
--keep-standard/--remove-all, and deriving the partner from a --no- prefix
splits those and demands both halves. Mutation-tested both ways -- removing a
flag from cli.md and adding a field to InvisibleOptions each fail it.

Victor KuznetsovandClaude Opus 5 326840bab4 Make the release verification actually verify the Space and the node
The HF Space step curled the root for HTTP 200 and then emitted a warning
and SUCCEEDED when it never got one. The documented contract was three other
checks entirely: the requirements pin, the runtime stage, and live identify
and visible calls. None was implemented, which is why the demo sat two
releases behind while every verification run stayed green. Implemented all
three; the pin check fails today, correctly, on 0.34.1 against 0.36.0.

The ComfyUI step read the latest run of the node repo's sync workflow. That
workflow also runs on a daily schedule, so a green nightly satisfied it
whether or not this release was ever synced. The registry does publish a JSON
API, contrary to the comment that justified the proxy, so read the node
directly and assert the active version declares this library release.

Both of those steps warned and continued; only Homebrew failed hard. Now all
of them exit non-zero, and the summary is assembled from lines each step
appends as it passes rather than an unconditional block that claimed five
verified surfaces regardless.

No step needs the GitHub token any more, so pin least-privilege permissions
here and in test.yml.

Victor KuznetsovandClaude Opus 5 29de21256b Point the classify weights at wiltodelta/raiw-photo-classify
The Hub model and the private training repository were both called
raiw-models, so the training repo's README had to spend a paragraph telling
the two apart. Renamed on both sides: the Hub model to raiw-photo-classify
and the GitHub repository to raiw-classifier-training.

Done now because it is free now. classify.py landed after v0.36.0 and is in
no release, and the Hub model had zero all-time downloads, so no installed
package and no user carries the old id. Hugging Face redirects the old URL
and preserves counts, and the pinned freeze revision c0ac82b6 resolves on
the new name -- verified by downloading through the library's own constants.

Victor Kuznetsov 07b07634cf Merge the docs/arxiv-paper-review research line into main (#95)
* Add rigorous SynthID research and evaluation harness

* Record SynthID cross-epoch validation results

* Reset SynthID detector hypotheses to paired training

* Add paired wavelet and spectral SynthID probes

* Record closed-corpus SynthID detector ablations

* Add registered SynthID phase probing

* Add periodic SynthID tile probing

* Add calibrated SynthID pixel detector

* Harden scale-registered SynthID detection

* Record SynthID phase and channel rescue findings

* Add production SynthID routing and OpenAI verification

* Reframe periodic pixel route as pipeline lattice; confirm and harden detection

The frozen periodic experts read an origin-anchored generation-pipeline lattice destroyed by a crop off the tile grid, not the crop-robust SynthID mark. Route the pixel result as an experimental pipeline_lattice signal kept out of the watermark inventory, and carry the crop sensitivity in every verdict envelope.

Add split-patch phase/amplitude/codeword confirmation for registered-v3, affine-lattice and cyclostationary research probes, and timeout/retry/error-taxonomy hardening for the official OpenAI verification path.

* Record pipeline-lattice reframing and registered-v3 phase lock

Document that the pixel route detects an origin-anchored lattice rather than the watermark, and record the registered-v3 two-pixel phase-lock measurement: a 2px diagonal crop killed all 36 tested detections (28 foreign-generator, 8 Google) with recovery only at offsets that are multiples of four. Update README, CLI, Python API, supported-signals, known-limitations, module-internals, the SynthID reference, and the detector research plan.

* Split SynthID campaign docs by detector, classifiers, and removal

Keep Model 1 as a research AI-versus-camera result outside the library.
Retire the mixed oracle-ladders page to a routing hub and mark the plan
file as a chronological archive.

* Keep 2026-08-22 SynthID campaign results in research docs only

Drop Bayer, Model 1, and lattice re-check numbers from user guides and
module internals. The library surface is unchanged.

* Unplug lattice detector from package, expand research docs

* Remove lattice detector sources from the public package

* Document SynthID GitHub sweep findings

* Document general AI classifier sweep

* Document modern-negative taxonomy audit and classifier doc split

Split general AI-classifier research into ai-generated-image-classifiers.md
and record the modern-negative campaign: Unsplash/Openverse date-clean cells,
contamination controls, quarter-hard paired result, closed linear veto and
taxonomy-continuation arms.

pre-commit: 1) maintain.sh - exit 1, known uv-secure lightning advisory with no upstream fix (same triage as main); core checks separately green (ruff, format, pyright, 1564 tests); 2) /simplify - docs-only single pass, no findings; 3) docs sync - split references updated everywhere, none stale; 4) CLAUDE.md - routing line already updated, compliant

* Record wild-AI audit, Meta provider class, and stock-negative expansion

The wild vendor-flagged AI cell (300 stratified rows) puts Model 1 recall at
69.7% on unknown-renderer stock AI; the stock-negative harvest triples the
modern fashion/product cells and confirms the combined-pool veto control;
the Meta muse-image corpus doubles to 132 rows with its margin sweep; a
per-channel cv2 reference fixes the latent fold test under cv2 4.10.0.

pre-commit: 1) maintain.sh - exit 1, known uv-secure lightning advisory with no upstream fix; core checks separately green (ruff, format, pyright, 1665 tests); 2) /simplify - docs-only single pass, no findings; 3) docs sync - new run references point at the gitignored research store, none stale; 4) CLAUDE.md - compact, no changes needed

* Close representation-change campaign: both candidates falsified

Pre-registered gates (AI-test >=1772, fresh OI <=50, Kodak 0, FLUX >=288,
EvalGEN >=95) rejected DINOv2-L ridge head (1427/1847, 162/3000, 1/24, 29/300,
5/100) and the paired-reconstruction FFT tower (14/1847, 12/3000, 0/24, 0/300,
0/100; contract learned at 0.949 pairwise separation but no transfer to
production generators). Campaign verdict: general classifier beyond local
scale as pursued; product stays on documented remainder.

pre-commit: 1) maintain.sh - exit 1, known uv-secure lightning advisory with no upstream fix; core checks green minutes ago (ruff, format, pyright, 1665 tests); 2) /simplify - docs-only single pass, no findings; 3) docs sync - verdict mirrored in data/research/REPRESENTATION-CAMPAIGN.md, no stale refs; 4) CLAUDE.md - no changes

* Record full failure map, H2 router falsification, and H3 process detector closure

20 measured negative domains with batch-2 (memes, whiteboards, tickets, book
pages). H2 domain router falsified: 97.9% of AI-test looks structured, every
family 94-100%. H3 process detector on 369 contrastive pairs from three
generators (OpenAI gpt-image-1-mini, Meta muse-image-1.0, Gemini flash-image)
achieves 0.909 pairwise AUC on training pairs but transfers at AUC 0.55-0.60
to production AI; human receipts score higher than any AI family. The
generator-specific spectral trace does not generalize across three generators,

* Record H4-H6 research hypotheses: MLP probe, spectral invariant, TTA voting

H4 (MLP on frozen CLIP): 98.6% AI-test recall but 15.8% photo FPR — same
trade-off curve as quarter-hard. H5 (spectral invariant from CVPR 2025):
2.4% recall, the 1/f^alpha profile does not discriminate current generators.
H6 (TTA voting): fixes museum FP but not documents/UI/fashion, loses 9% recall.
All three falsified against frozen gates; ten total closed hypotheses now
document the CLIP-L representation limit from every angle.

Also records the provider cascade across all 20 domains (69.8% stray on
documents mirrors the detector failure map) and the full Y-phase campaign
PSNR data awaiting oracle rate-limit reset.

* Fix Y-phase frequency convention, record H4-H6 and campaign results

The initial Y-phase campaign targeted FFT bins 16-32 instead of spatial
periods 16-32 px (1/32 to 1/16 cycles/px). After the fix, the full-octave
Y-phase scramble reproduces the known kill (not_detected at 20.5 dB on s1
at native 1122x1402). Partial sub-bands are visually invisible (42.5 dB)
but stay detected: the mark is distributed across the full octave, not
concentrated. Point intervention is not viable within this frequency band.

H4 MLP probe: 98.6% recall, 15.8% FPR (same trade-off wall).
H5 spectral invariant: 2.4% recall (1/f^alpha does not discriminate).
H6 TTA voting: fixes museum FP but not documents/UI/fashion.

* Add TC260 fifth class and per-class margin calibration to provider cascade

Five-head cascade (openai/google/tc260/meta/no_ai): openai 68.8%, google
76.6%, tc260 63.8%, meta 71.8% mean recall at uniform margin 0.50.
Per-class margins calibrated against 1.67% photo budget: openai 0.31,
google 0.29, tc260 0.39, meta 0.55. TC260 test recall 71.4% at calibrated
margins on 196 held-out images. Chinese-AIGC is a viable pixel class.

* Record universal detector v3-v8: diverse training shifts the curve

Fresh MLP on frozen CLIP embeddings with 49 negative domains (12,258 images)
and 5,043 AI positives achieves 93.0% AI-test recall with 39/49 domains at
zero false positives. Digital art FP dropped from 99.3% (Model 1) to 24.8%,
fashion from 62-71% to 12%, UI from 99.3% to 12%. Photo FPR 0.7%. The
improvement comes from training data diversity on frozen embeddings, not
representation change (v5 fine-tune proved this by undoing the gains).
Also adds .local-eval to ruff exclude so the gate covers only tracked files.

* Add three-tier ensemble detector: DEFINITELY/POSSIBLY/LIKELY_HUMAN

Combines Model 1 and v8 into calibrated confidence tiers. DEFINITELY_AI
(both models agree) achieves 79.6% recall at 0.50% photo FPR with 46/49
domains at zero FP. The union reaches 93.3% recall at 1.80% photo FPR
with Kodak 0/24. First detector working across ALL content types with
per-tier calibrated error rates.

* Add provider v2: diversity training eliminates document leakage

Same diversity-training insight applied to the provider cascade. Adding
3,769 structured negative features to training drops document/receipt
leakage from 69.8% to 5.1%, UI from 10% to 4.3%, fashion from 5-15% to
0-3%. AI recall improves: OpenAI 84% (was 75%), Google 88.8% (was 79%).
Photo leakage 1.4%. Worst regression: memes 47.9% (was 27%).

* Add universal v11: full taxonomy, 136 domains, 124 at zero FP

Master data plan mapped 148 visual domains. Massive collection (3,343
images, 73 domains from Openverse) plus gap-filler (724 images from
Safebooru anime/manga) expanded training to 19,768 images across 136
negative domains. Universal v11 (MLP-512 + Model 1 ensemble):
DEFINITELY 90.3% recall at 0.50% photo FPR, ANY 95.6% recall,
124/134 domains at exactly 0% FP, worst FP 13.8% (digital art).

New domains opened: anime, manga, chibi, mecha, vintage photos,
banknotes, newspapers, magazines, movie posters, antique maps,
watercolor/oil originals, patterns, cosmetics, real estate, 3D
renders, and 60+ more.

* Confirm representation limit: v12 fine-tune destroys structured FP despite 6x data

Fine-tuning CLIP tower on 19,518 images achieves 95.1% standalone recall
but returns to 100% FP on art/UI and 14/59 zero-FP domains (vs 124/134
for frozen v11). This is a representation property, not a data issue.
Frozen CLIP + MLP (v11) is the only working architecture. Also records
provider v3 trained on all negative domains.

* Document v13 plateau: 128/136 zero FP, frozen-CLIP ceiling confirmed

v13 with top-plan expansion (1,169 new images) improves domain coverage
to 128/136 at zero FP and reduces fashion FP to 5.3%, but DEFINITELY
recall plateaus at 89.6% and art FP at 15.9%. The frozen CLIP + MLP
architecture has reached its ceiling.

The four-fixture Google calibration showed a clean YuNet face-count split:
both zero-face text cards need 0.25 first-clean, both face fixtures clear
at 0.12 with zero cross-source spread. The adaptive arm routes face
content (face_count > 0) to the measured 0.125 rung, saving 6.4 dB PSNR
and doubling face identity cosine vs the flat 0.40 floor. The split is
Google-SynthID-specific: OpenAI's face fixture was harder than its text
fixture, so no other cohort gets an adaptive arm.

Jimeng CN video wordmark: no separation (1/5 positives vs 2/25 negatives hold

positives, below the registration bar. The top-left pill on video is parked
by analysis: its false-fire mode is a static textured corner, which temporal

Victor Kuznetsov 95f467b4ad Register the Doubao video mark with a corpus-calibrated single-floor policy
detect_doubao_frame reuses the image engine's synthetic doubao alpha as its
video template, so the glyph cannot drift between registries. The policy is
seedance-style single-floor, calibrated by sequential decode over 39
TC260-confirmed Doubao corpus videos and 25 negatives: a 12-frame stable run
at 0.35 accepts 33/39 positives and 0/25 negatives (0.30 already accepted a
negative), and through the shipped arbiter identify_video selects 32/39 with
no false selection. Also documents the measured impossibility of a bare-pill
removal arm with the current detector (68 OCR-confirmed pills max 0.317 vs
clean negatives max 0.353 -- no separating threshold exists).

The OCR badge census split the 343 Microsoft-C2PA uploads into 86 badge

Badge-less scores max 0.251 / p99 0.213, so the 0.266 relaxed gate admits the
three faint badges in [0.251, 0.38) with zero measured false fills; re-verified
on the provenance path as 3 band detections and 0/257 badge-less fires.

Victor Kuznetsov 08a4a8d299 Add synthetic visible-mark example gallery with canary tests
One committed example per registered mark: 12 PNG (image registry) and 6 MP4
clips (video registry), generated by scripts/render_visible_examples.py from
the committed silhouettes and detector templates -- never from user uploads.
The generator self-verifies (exit 1 when a mark misses its own example) and
tests/test_visible_examples.py holds both sides to it: registry completeness
both ways, per-engine detection on the canonical example, and the shipped
temporal selection accepting each clip.

Second tranche of measured-but-unregistered candidates parked under
scripts/assets/visible-mark-candidates/ with a README recording why none
ships yet (positives do not separate from clean negatives): samsung_en,
gemini_text, notebooklm, dola, mindvideo, higgsfield, jianying, capcut, zsky,
chromastudio, digenai, gendo.

Victor Kuznetsov 17408b958e Reject the uncalibrated text-manifest tiling and verify Content Seal transforms
Tiled diffusion was never provider-oracle calibrated with verified text
restoration: the tiled VAE donor path ran anyway and produced results no
oracle had certified. The combination is now rejected at both the
pipeline and the engine seam (ValueError with the reason), and the CLI
help no longer implies support. The invisible help is generalized and
the metadata container list corrected (MKA/OGA/Opus/AAC).

scripts/contentseal_transforms.py reproduces the deterministic crop,
resize, and JPEG variants of the Content Seal corpus from manifest.csv,
hash-verifying every output; its README gains scripts/README.md context
and new data tests. The corpus README is honest about the one crop the
daily oracle limit left unchecked, and the eval CSVs carry the updated
verdicts. The byte-scan SynthID suppression hoists its soft-binding
lookup so the guard is computed once.

Staged on top of 0.33.1; no version bump in this commit.

Guard the SET, not the instances: per-flag comparisons only check what the skill already documents, so `--vendor`, `--pipeline auto` and then the whole `classify` and `verify-openai-synthid` commands each shipped with a green suite. `test_every_cli_command_is_named_somewhere_in_the_skill` closes that; raise `MIN_CLI_VERSION` in the skill's probe whenever a reference names a command, flag or value the previous release lacked, or the probe tells an agent its CLI is current right before it types something that build rejects.

(image marks) and `example.mp4` (video marks), regenerated by
`scripts/render_visible_examples.py`. `tests/test_visible_examples.py` is the canary: it
fails when a mark is registered without an example and when an engine stops detecting its
own example. The examples are deterministic synthetic composites of the committed
silhouettes. When the generator fails after a geometry or gate change, fix the generator
(and the engine) together; do not hand-edit the binaries.

product name, and the literal text rendered in the mark whenever those differ. Verify
external provider names against the provider's official source rather than inferring
them from an asset filename or OCR text.

# Engine-selection fixture set
This directory is the tracked, content-balanced input set for researching a
deterministic `auto` engine choice. It is not a training corpus and it is not a
watermark-oracle corpus.
## Content matrix
`content-manifest.csv` contains 19 prompt-matched pairs. Each pair uses the
same prompt and generation index across OpenAI `gpt-image-1-mini` and Meta
`muse-image-1.0`, covering the content classes that materially stress image
regeneration:
- natural and urban scenes;
- single-person portraits and people in context;
- animals, food, products, interiors, architecture, macro detail, and action;
- flat, isometric, watercolor, and surreal illustration styles.
The files are exact copies of generation outputs collected for the
`docs/arxiv-paper-review` research branch. The manifest records the SHA-256 of
the committed bytes. The old OpenAI collection manifest stored the API payload
hash under `sha256`; `source_payload_sha256` preserves that value while
`sha256` always means the actual file bytes here. Meta's two hashes are the
same.
The project maintainer has cleared these exact committed outputs for permanent
public test and benchmark reuse. `reuse_basis` records that clearance on every
row. It is permission for this fixed fixture set, not a claim that either
provider grants a general-purpose dataset license for arbitrary generations.
One generation per prompt and provider is enough for the first paired
discovery pass. Any policy inferred from it must be challenged against unused
generation indices from the local research archive before shipping. Generated
outputs belong outside this directory.
`carrier-manifest.csv` adds the canonical, already tracked signal carriers to
the study without copying their bytes. Together the two manifests cover
ordinary content, text, single faces, face grids, and mixed face/text scenes.
## Signal carriers
The content matrix was re-encoded by its collection pipeline and has no local
provenance signal. It must not be used to set or certify watermark-removal
strengths. The tracked oracle/carrier inputs remain in their canonical homes:
- OpenAI and Google SynthID: `data/synthid/originals/` with
`data/synthid/manifest.csv`;
- Meta Content Seal: `data/contentseal/originals/` with
`data/contentseal/manifest.csv`.
There is no tracked, publication-cleared Microsoft InvisMark carrier yet. The
three Paint sources used by the earlier calibration are user uploads and remain
outside git. A Microsoft row may be added only from a newly generated or
otherwise publication-cleared source, with a pixel-identical metadata-stripped
control that remains positive in Microsoft's detector.
## Integrity check
Run:
```bash
uv run python scripts/verify_engine_selection_fixtures.py
```
The check validates paths, byte hashes, dimensions, prompt pairing, and the
declared provider/content matrix without loading any ML model.

## OpenRouter metadata survey
The following files are original byte streams returned by OpenRouter's Image
API on 2026-09-02. Each request used a repository-maintainer account, the same
neutral still-life prompt, one 1:1 output, and no image reference. The prompt
was `A documentary photograph of three smooth river stones on pale linen beside
a small blue glass vase, soft natural daylight, plain uncluttered background,
no text, no logos`.
| File | Model | Cost | SHA-256 | Expected metadata result |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| `recraft-v3.webp` | `recraft/recraft-v3` | USD 0.04 | `e94c99ab50410092dbb601c8269ce812879e2271e18c7880021d2118666542ae` | Valid C2PA; `recraft.ai`; `trainedAlgorithmicMedia` |
| `krea-2-medium-turbo.png` | `krea/krea-2-medium-turbo` | USD 0.015 | `ee1302c01e8da8e316e6563b0f9d36d511b9048fb2f70b8851eeeda98c5fb6a0` | No locally readable provenance |
Both were paid API generations. Recraft grants ownership for paid-plan output,
and Krea states that users own compliant outputs. They are distributed under
the repository license.
- Recraft terms: <https://www.recraft.ai/docs/plans-and-billing/commercial-rights-and-ownership>
- Krea terms: <https://www.krea.ai/krea-2-licensing>
The same survey generated `sourceful/riverflow-v2-fast` output and found no
locally readable metadata. It is not committed because Riverflow's terms
restrict redistribution and using results to test or improve machine-learning
systems. Its measured SHA-256 was
`d4d7e80a3ed450129a0e77bdf330a83eb7de1e287d5b2b737cd26a011194a270`;
OpenRouter recorded a USD 0.02 request cost.
## WaveSpeedAI metadata survey
The following measurements came from original byte streams returned by the
WaveSpeedAI API on 2026-09-03. Each request used a repository-maintainer
account and the same neutral still-life prompt recorded above. The account
balance moved from USD 12.00 to USD 11.82 for the four successful requests.
| File | WaveSpeedAI model | SHA-256 | Expected metadata result |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| `qwen-image.png` | `wavespeed-ai/qwen-image/text-to-image` | `5b6d832834397498d0587b9b2536f88c75e923195c43c2b71d9f7f3c5422b4f1` | No provenance signal; one non-provenance PNG `job-id` text field |
| `hunyuan-image-3.png` | `wavespeed-ai/hunyuan-image-3` | `6ae2ac073ac79b02b0934c905364f200420c2ff60fea232bd9e0a5fca785cc09` | Valid C2PA from `fal.ai` naming `fal-ai/hunyuan-image`, plus Adobe TrustMark Variant P, schema 0 |
| `kling-image-v3.png` | `kwaivgi/kling-image-v3/text-to-image` | `501ab865b47ba59b64bc0f68118300744b0d5c7be2fa4e2ecbb3a78de5d8a82b` | TC260 PNG `AIGC` field naming producer `001191110108335469089C10100`; no visible Kling mark |
| `seedream-v4.jpg` | `bytedance/seedream-v4` | `9ec6af1fc0509d74e264b9631a6cddd2ce7ce20146347fe418e9306032beb759` | No locally readable provenance |
All four original byte streams are committed. Section 11.1 of WaveSpeedAI's
terms assigns its rights in Customer Data, explicitly including Outputs, to the
customer. The live catalog records used for these requests expose no additional
license, terms URL, attribution requirement, territory restriction, or
commercial-use restriction. The maintainer therefore distributes these paid,
neutral-prompt outputs under the repository license. This conclusion applies
to these WaveSpeedAI API transactions; it does not import unrelated terms from
the vendors' direct consumer services.

- WaveSpeedAI commercial-use policy: <https://wavespeed.ai/docs/commercial-use-policy>

## Qwen Create consumer output
`qwen-create-qwen-image-2.png` is the original 2048 x 2048 PNG downloaded from
an authenticated Qwen Create generation on 2026-09-03. It was generated by
`Qwen-Image 2.0` at 1:1 using the neutral still-life prompt recorded above.
The current global consumer surface differs from the supported Chinese Qwen
text mark: it places a small Qwen symbol at the bottom right, not
`千问AI生成`. The existing Qwen text detector therefore correctly does not
claim this new shape (measured strict confidence 0.178).
- SHA-256: `60c39ed8aedb081193c62289be549785e74d31fc8d071961003fabd74712429d`
- Expected metadata signal: TC260 AIGC label
- Expected `ContentProducer`: `001191440101MA9Y9T4H7A00000`
- Expected visible result: no registered visible mark; the Qwen symbol is a
newly observed, currently unsupported variant
- License: repository license; generated and explicitly cleared by the
maintainer
- Qwen Create terms: <https://terms.alicdn.com/legal-agreement/terms/c_end_product_protocol/20260519200335649/20260519200335649.html>
## Open DWT-DCT
`sdxl-dwt-dct.png` is a real AI-generated carrier with the public 48-bit SDXL
watermark embedded by ShieldMnt's `invisible-watermark` encoder using its
`dwtDct` method. The carrier is the original `kling-image-v3.png` WaveSpeedAI
output documented above, not a procedurally generated test texture. Encoding
was lossless to PNG and removed the source container metadata; the resulting
fixture contains only the expected open DWT-DCT signal.
- Source carrier SHA-256: `501ab865b47ba59b64bc0f68118300744b0d5c7be2fa4e2ecbb3a78de5d8a82b`

- Payload: `0b101100111110110010010000011110111011000110011110`
- Expected signal: open DWT-DCT, `Stable Diffusion XL`
- Verification: 48/48 payload bits recovered by both the upstream decoder and
the in-tree decoder; `identify` reports the expected high-confidence signal
- Encoder: <https://github.com/ShieldMnt/invisible-watermark>
- License: repository license; the encoder is MIT-licensed
## Microsoft InvisMark
### Microsoft Paint
`microsoft-paint-invismark.png` is the original byte stream supplied directly
by Xusheng Li on 2026-09-02 after his reverse-engineering research documented
Paint's pixel watermark and its matching C2PA soft binding. He authorized public
redistribution of the fixture under the MIT license. The neutral image was
generated by Microsoft Paint from the prompt `a cobalt blue circle above a tiny
orange square`.
- Source research: <https://xusheng.dev/posts/reversing/mspaint_invisible_watermark/main/>
- SHA-256: `74eda22d210d534fcb5b75bedf8acd3bd110b48a95f4b9e546cd34f546effc05`

- Expected signal: C2PA soft binding `com.microsoft.invismark.1`
- Expected watermark ID: `a4ed421e-7c37-4409-998e-f8788c564572`
- Expected platform: `Microsoft (Copilot / Designer)`
- Expected C2PA result: valid asset binding and signature

### Microsoft MAI-Image through OpenRouter
`microsoft-invismark.png` is the original byte stream returned by OpenRouter's
Image API for `microsoft/mai-image-2.5-pro` on 2026-09-02. The request used a
repository-maintainer account and asked for one 1:1 image. OpenRouter routed
the request to Microsoft Azure. Microsoft states that it does not claim
ownership of AI-service output; the maintainer distributes this output under
the repository license.
- SHA-256: `be27ac7c351e7f381dc69e140ca3611ecd9db81e40926c68050ceffdd0ce6c04`
- Expected signal: C2PA soft binding `com.microsoft.invismark.1`
- Expected watermark ID: `19b070a1-23f0-40eb-826c-cade306337eb`
- Expected platform: `Microsoft (Copilot / Designer)`
- Request cost recorded by OpenRouter: USD 0.110757
- License: repository license
- Terms: <https://www.microsoft.com/en/servicesagreement/>
### Microsoft MAI-Image through Bing Image Creator
`microsoft-bing-image-creator.jpg` is the original download produced without
sign-in by Microsoft's public Bing Image Creator on 2026-09-03. The page named
the model `MAI-Image-2.5-Flash`; it used the neutral still-life prompt recorded
above and the 3:2 aspect ratio. The downloaded image has no visible AI badge,
so it does not close the separate visible Microsoft-badge fixture request.
- SHA-256: `55cad5355b6eeeb25f84ea074f85c0ea55b82d63c27f43e3429bb75f28734ac7`
- Dimensions: 1248 x 832 RGB JPEG
- Expected signal: valid C2PA plus soft binding `com.microsoft.invismark.1`
- Expected watermark ID: `aec9a34e-665f-4549-9c02-9d29337a5de6`
- Expected platform: `Microsoft (Copilot / Designer)`
- License: repository license
- Terms: <https://www.microsoft.com/en/servicesagreement/>

## Ideogram C2PA attribution
`ideogram-c2pa.png` is a SYNTHETIC signed manifest, not a vendor download: a
64x64 flat PNG carrying a C2PA claim (`trainedAlgorithmicMedia`,
`claim_generator "Ideogram/3.0"`) signed by a throwaway test CA whose leaf
certificate subject is `O=Ideogram, Inc, CN=Ideogram, Inc`. It exercises the
issuer-to-platform ATTRIBUTION path end to end through the real reader; the
signer is deliberately untrusted (no trust anchors ship), which is also the
fixture's second assertion: attribution and signer trust are separate
dimensions.
- Expected signal: C2PA, platform `Ideogram`, `ai_from_metadata` True
- Expected signer: `untrusted` (test CA; attribution must not imply trust)
- Recipe (no keys are committed): create a CA and an ES256 leaf with
`digitalSignature` key usage and subject `CN=Ideogram, Inc`, then
`c2pa.Builder.from_json(...).sign_file(png, out, Signer.from_info(
C2paSignerInfo(b"es256", leaf_pem + ca_pem, pkcs8_key, None)))`.
- No user upload and no Ideogram artifact contributes pixels or bytes.

# Visible-mark example gallery
One committed example per registered visible mark, so the repository carries a
working sample of everything it supports. `tests/test_visible_examples.py` holds
both sides to it: a mark registered without an example fails the suite, and so
does an engine that stops detecting its own example.
## What these files are
Every example is SYNTHETIC: `scripts/render_visible_examples.py` composites the
mark's committed alpha or silhouette onto a deterministic generated base photo at
the engine's measured geometry. Controlled provider captures were used to solve
some alpha assets, including Samsung's measured opacity; the remaining shapes are
repository-owned renders rather than copied vendor rasters.
The examples demonstrate DETECTION geometry and house style, not vendor raster
fidelity; real-world variants (fonts, opacities, sizes) are covered by the
engines' recorded calibration evidence.
The Qwen, Kling, Yuanbao, Baidu, Jimeng, LiblibAI, Microsoft, Sora, Hailuo, and Veo
directories additionally contain real provider-marked sources. These files
retain the source bytes and names used here are deliberately distinct from the
generated canonical examples. The current LiblibAI output is evidence of a
provider format change, not a positive example for the registered historical
wordmark detector:

OpenNoMark describes its corpus as real-image examples and distributes the
repository under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0. Its license text is reproduced in
`../../licenses/open-no-mark-CC-BY-NC-SA-4.0.txt`. The upstream repository does
not record per-image authorship beyond that repository-level license and claim.
The Qwen and Baidu files remain under that license and are not offered under
this repository's Apache-2.0 license.
The Microsoft file is the original 1024 x 1024 PNG downloaded from an
authenticated Copilot image-generation conversation. It uses the neutral
still-life prompt recorded in `../README.md`, carries the visible top-right
`Made with AI` pill, valid Microsoft C2PA, and InvisMark soft-binding ID
`975290d4-9c2f-4359-ad5a-92c5b5b850a4`. Microsoft does not claim ownership of
AI-service output; the maintainer distributes this generated output under the
repository license.
The Sora frame is the original JPEG frame
`images/train/images/failed_image_000016_frame_000150.jpg` from LLinked's
`sora-watermark-dataset`. The dataset card describes its images as frames
extracted from Sora-generated videos, provides manual watermark boxes, and
licenses the dataset under Apache-2.0. This neutral CGI frame carries the
current moving mascot-and-wordmark raster and passes the in-tree frame
localizer.
The Sora MP4 is the byte-for-byte `resources/puppies.mp4` fixture tracked by
LLinked's Apache-2.0 `SoraWatermarkCleaner` at commit `ad35ce9`. It preserves
the moving mascot-and-wordmark raster, timing, audio, and the source C2PA
manifest. The in-tree video path detects Sora on all 300 frames. The C2PA claim
names Sora as the generator and OpenAI/Truepic as the issuer; its content
integrity and signature verify, while the reader reports the signer certificate
as expired and untrusted.

The Hailuo file is the original 2944 x 1248, 5-second MP4 downloaded from an
authenticated Hailuo AI generation. It was generated with MiniMax H3 for 60
top-up credits from the neutral prompt `A blue ceramic mug slowly rotates on a
plain light gray studio table, soft even lighting, fixed camera, clean
background.` The download menu explicitly offered clean and `With Watermark`
variants; this fixture is the latter. It carries the visible lower-right
`MINIMAX | hailuo AI` composite and a TC260 AIGC label naming MiniMax as the
producer. The maintainer generated and explicitly cleared this output for use
under the repository license.
- Hailuo AI paid-service and credit terms:
<https://hailuoai.video/doc/payment-policy.html>
The Kling video is the original 1280 x 720, 5-second MP4 generated with VIDEO
3.0 for 30 credits at 720p without native audio. Its neutral prompt was `A
locked-off wide shot of a small white paper boat floating across a calm
dark-blue pond at dusk, gentle ripples, realistic cinematic lighting, no text,
no logos.` It carries the fixed lower-right `KlingAI 3.0` logo and no locally
readable provenance metadata. The maintainer generated and explicitly cleared
the output for this noncommercial deterministic computer-vision regression
fixture. Kling AI's terms say the user owns applicable rights in the output,
require a regular account to retain Kling branding when distributing it, and
prohibit commercial use without written permission. The fixture retains the
brand and remains subject to those terms; it is not offered under the
repository license.

The direct Kling image is the original 1024 x 1024 RGB PNG generated with
IMAGE 3.0 in 1K SD mode for one credit. Its neutral prompt was `A documentary
photograph of three smooth river stones on pale linen beside a small blue glass
vase, soft natural daylight, plain uncluttered background, no text, no logos.`
It carries the current lower-right `KlingAI 3.0` mark and a TC260 AIGC field
whose producer code `001191110108335469089C10100` normalizes to Kuaishou's
registered USCC. The maintainer generated and explicitly cleared the output for
this noncommercial deterministic computer-vision regression fixture. The same
Kling terms and retained-brand restriction listed for the video apply; the file
is not offered under the repository license.
The Yuanbao image is the original 1776 x 1328 RGB PNG returned by an
authenticated AI Image conversation. It was generated at no charge from the
neutral prompt `A documentary photograph of a blue ceramic mug on a plain
light-gray studio table, soft even lighting, no text, no logos, no people.` It
carries the visible lower-right two-line `元宝` / `AI生成` mark and a TC260 AIGC
field naming Tencent's registered producer. The maintainer generated and
explicitly cleared this output for use under the repository license.
The Jimeng image is the byte-for-byte embedded JPEG extracted with
`pdfimages` from page 29 of Zhonglun W&D's publicly distributed 2026 *Bank
Finance Legal Newsletter*. It is a real Jimeng-generated debt-collection
poster carrying both the top-left `AI生成` pill and the lower-right `即梦AI`
wordmark. The repository retains one 705 x 705 image rather than the complete
33-page publication, solely to test identification and removal of the two
marks. Copyright remains with the source rights holders; this research fixture
is not licensed under Apache-2.0. See
`../../licenses/zhonglunwende-jimeng-fair-use.txt` for provenance and use
limitations.

The LiblibAI image is the original 2048 x 2048 RGBA PNG generated with Smart
Image V2 for 18 introductory points from the same neutral prompt. It carries a
top-left `AI生成` pill and a TC260 AIGC field whose producer code contains
LiblibAI's registered USCC, but it does not carry the historical bottom-center
`LiblibAI` wordmark that the registered `liblib` engine detects. This file
therefore records the current provider behavior without falsely closing the
historical positive-example gap. The maintainer generated and explicitly
cleared the output for use under the repository license.

The Veo file is the original 1280 x 720, 8-second MP4 downloaded from an
authenticated Google Flow project. It was generated with Veo 3.1 Fast for 20
Flow credits from the neutral prompt `A blue mug rotates on gray. Static camera.
No people, text, logos, or audio.` after the account's `Visible watermarking`
setting was enabled. It carries the fixed, low-contrast `Veo` text at the bottom
right, valid Google C2PA, and an invisible SynthID marker. Google documents that
Flow clips can be downloaded and shared, states that Google does not claim
ownership of original generated content, and explicitly identifies SynthID in
all Flow video output. The maintainer distributes this generated output under
the repository license.

## Regeneration
uv run python scripts/render_visible_examples.py
The generator self-verifies: it fails (exit 1) if any registered mark does not
detect on its own example, so regeneration is the fix point for drift.
## Layout
<mark-key>/example.png 1536x2048..2048x2048 PNG, one per image mark
<mark-key>/provider-original.*
Documented real provider-marked source where available
<mark-key>/example.mp4 960x540 90-frame clip, one per video mark
(kling carries both: it is registered in both registries)
Special cases: `gemini` composites the sparkle alpha map at the provider's
configured position; `jimeng_pill` uses the measured 3:4 portrait geometry;
`microsoft` is the opaque white pill with dark text
holes (the discriminator its detector keys on). Video examples composite the
detector's own synthetic template on every frame; where two marks share a
shape family the example carries the discriminative variant (`veo` the legacy
text form, `kling` the logo-plus-wordmark pair flush to the edge), because the
temporal selection resolves cross-template ties by table order.
